An arrow on the target; Veerbhadra on Daksh Prajapati; the net on the fish in the river; lion on its prey; hawks on sparrows; Chandi on Biralach; Parashuraam on the Kshatriyas; Ram on Raavan; Balram on Jarasandh; they were all heavy on their target; Inder on a mountain with his Vajra; Vishnu's Sudarshan Chakra on the sinners; that is how the Gursikhs are on attachment. I bow to these Gursikhs.
Bhai Balla ji said to Guru Angad Dev ji: "Sri Guru ji, listen to the history, as Guru ji was playing on earth."
Balla ji speaks:
Guru Nanak Dev ji was washing his servants' sins as he played. He played with his friends. His father loved him, while watching him. Guru ji was wearing beautiful clothes and jewellery. Talwandi was being blessed as Guru ji played. He would run sometimes and sometimes he would sit down. Guru ji would speak sweet words to the kids. The people walking by would stop to hear him. He would eat food from his mother when it was time. Mata ji would love to feed her son. She would look at his face and feel happy. Pitha Kalu ji would come home and look at his son. He thought to himself: "without being educated, my son is wasting his time. What will he do for a living? How will he earn money? Without having his own work, it won't be good. The people will talk bad about him otherwise. I will need to have him educated. It is good that he studies now. It will be hard to study when he gets older." Pitha Mehta Kalu ji took Guru Nanak Dev ji and set off.
Pitha Kalu ji took his son to the Maulvi, teaching Farsi. There were many children sitting there, studying. Pitha ji met the Maulvi with a depressed feeling. He said to him: "I have brought my only son to you. Please teach him Farsi. He is very smart. He learns very fast. Tell me when I should bring him. I am ready to pay whatever you ask for." The Maulvi said to Pitha ji: "tomorrow is a good day. Bring him in the morning. You can leave him here today if you’d like. I will teach him with love. You are the Patvaari of our city; I will teach him good. He will obey you. I will see how smart he is. You can go home now." Pitha ji went home along with Guru Nanak Dev ji.
They both came home and ate food. They slept the night and got ready the next morning. Pitha ji took Guru Nanak Dev ji to the Maulvi the next morning. He said to Guru ji: "study with care. You will go everyday. Don't go anywhere else from there." Pitha ji gave 1 Rajitpun to the Maulvi and distributed sweets to everyone. He gave his son a slate and a pen. The Maulvi wrote down the letters of the Farsi script: Alaf and the Siharfi (the letters of Farsi). Pitha ji had left. When Maulvi ji recited the letters, Guru Nanak Dev ji would say the letters before he finished. The Maulvi was surprised to see that Guru Nanak Dev ji already knew the Farsi letters. The Maulvi thought: "this child must have studied with someone else before me. I am confused if I am teaching him or if he is teaching me. I can't even finish the letter and he speaks it. He is reading the difficult Farsi with great ease. This child is wise, like an adult. His wisdom is like the elderly. His Zer (Sihaaris) and Zabbars (Muktas), financial language, numbers are all perfect. I have kids here who have been studying for 10 years and can't read like this child can. He is not a normal person. He is an Auleeya Avatar. He is a power that can't be quantified. He is not a normal child. I have heard the praises of Kalu's son before. He learnt Farsi in one day." Many came and tested Guru ji. Whoever came to speak to Guru ji was amazed. The people praised Guru ji when they met each other: "he is young but his wisdom is great." Hindus and Muslims heard his words and bowed to his feet. They would love being with him as he spoke sweet words. Guru ji would speak like a Rishi speaking to his disciples. He would speak to Muslims using Farsi words. His words were like the Ganga, washing the sins away of who heard him. He spoke like a scholarly Pandit, who was never wrong. His words were joyful. They were worth meditating upon. Whoever heard Guru ji, they praised him. Guru ji was illuminating in the world. He was spreading the glory of Akaal Purakh.
People would leave their household chores to come and listen to Guru Nanak Dev ji. They would look at Guru ji's beautiful form and bow to him. They were attracted to his appearance. Whatever doubts the people had, Guru ji would clear them. They would hear the question before saying it to him. They would say: "he is an Avatar!" The pure-minded had faith and devotion towards Guru ji. Guru ji's words were priceless. His mind was still like an anvil, as well as his words.
When Guru ji noticed that people started to see his powers, he changed his behaviour and acted like an unaware child. He hid his powers. Guru ji would leave the city and lay down under a tree, in the shade. He would cover his body with a blanket and not speak to anyone, even if someone called out to him. He would focus his attention into his real form. Even at home, he would stay laying down. He wouldn't respond to his mother's calling either. He stopped speaking to anyone in order to hide his power. He didn't want to be praised. He spent 2 months inside his home and didn't speak to anyone else. People saw him and said: "he was very wise and smart. Now he has become a recluse. We wonder what happened to him. He stays within himself and looks depressed. Maybe he has been affected by the shadow of a ghost. He seems to be detached from everything. He doesn't care about his body or his home. He doesn't speak to anyone, even if we talk to him. He doesn't even look at us." The ones that didn't know his greatness, spoke like this.
Pith Kalu ji became worried of what happened to his son. He started to listen to others and tried many solutions. He went to the Maulvi and told him what happened to his son: "he has lost his senses. In what way did you teach him Farsi? Come with me and see how he is. See if he has been possessed by an evil spirit." Maulana ji went with Pitha ji.
The Maulvi saw Guru ji laying on the ground with a blanket on his body. He was carefree on the floor. Many other people of the neighbourhood came to see what was happening. Some wanted to hear Guru ji's words. They were all surprised to see Guru ji on the ground. Maulana ji sat on the ground near Guru ji. He prayed to Khuddah: "you have the blessing of Parvadhagar. You are wise at a very young age. Beautiful words come out of your words. You are benevolent. Everyone is eager to hear your words. Your nature is calm. I know that you will be praised in the future. You will be radiant in the whole world. You used to speak so good. I am amazed to see you quiet. Why are you so quiet? Look how concerned your father is, seeing you. He has forgotten his work, seeing you like this." Guru Nanak Dev ji did not speak. He didn't answer the Maulvi. Maulana ji was upset. He humbly spoke to Guru Nanak Dev ji again: "look how many people have come to hear your words. They want to hear you speak. If you don't speak to them, they will be upset along with me. For me, please speak a little bit. We will all have some hope if you speak a little bit. Why are you so shocked? For Khuddah's sake, please get up and say something." Guru ji heard the humble words of the Maulvi. He heard the sake of Khuddah and opened his eyes. He got up and sat cross-legged. He uttered a Shabad in Raag Tilang which took the pain away:
Sri Mukhvaak.. Tilang M:1..
The world is a place that will be destroyed one day, I have understood this with determination..
The messengers of death (Azrael) have my hair in their hands, the heart is not aware of this..1..Rahao..
(SGGS 721)
"If you want to know my state, give me your ears and I will tell you, Maulana. I wasn't going to say anything but you said the name of Sri Parmeshwar, so I will respond. The world that you see, you think this is permanent but I see it as being destroyed one day. Only the Naam of the Parmeshwar is everlasting. Just as lightening doesn’t last long, nor do the clouds, the world is like that. It is a dream, like the magician's illusion. Whoever sees this world as true and try to grab it, they regret their actions during their end. The ones that see this world as not everlasting, they do not trust it anymore. They see this world as a myth. That's the reason why I do not love the world or it's items. I have turned my attention the other way. I know that Azrael is always on my head and that it can take me at anytime. This is the fear I have in my heart. For this reason, I do not love the material things of the world." The Maulana was amazed to hear these words. He said to Sri Guru ji: "oh child. You are young. Why are you speaking like adults? If an elderly person like me says something like this, that's fine. It's not right for you to say things like this. You should play like children. Don't worry about these things. Don't mention these things. You will grow up and get married. You will enjoy the life of a householder. You will earn money and have wealth. Enjoy your life. You can think like this when you are older. Give joy to your family and relatives now." Guru Nanak Dev ji heard the words of the Maulvi, which were filled with ignorance. Guru ji spoke, which had the wisdom to give peace: "whatever you have realized in your whole life, without the Bhagti of the Naam, it is useless. If a person lives for 100 years, I will tell you his story: a person sleeps half his life. The other half, the eyes are open. For 15 years, a person spends his life as an unaware child. After the age of 80, the eyes do not see properly; the ears do not hear properly. The senses become weak and anxious. Focus cannot be attained. The body does not function properly. How will he think of Hari at this age? The remaining life is also wasted without the prayer to Hari. A person spends the remaining time going to the washroom, eating food, engaging with the wife and relatives. Time is spent gathering wealth. The person does good and bad things for it. He raises his children with love. He watches them grow. The whole life is spent in this way. In the end, the person leaves the earth, empty-minded. For this reason, make your mind understand that the life is useless without the Naam. You lose your breath over the love of these useless things. When a person understands this, the person becomes detached for the pleasures of the world. The person does Bandagi to Akaal Purakh. I will tell you how he does it:
Tilang M:1
I pray to your court, oh creator, listen to my request with your ear..
You are truth, infinite, the compassionate one, oh faultless nurturer..1..
(SGGS 721)
You should pray to the Prabhoo: "listen to me with your ear. You are the truth, infinite and compassionate one. Give me your Naam." Do Bandagi with your body and mind. Ask for the Naam. The compassionate one gives the servant Naam and blesses him." The Maulvi heard Guru ji's words, which erased ignorance. He said to Pitha ji: "your son is great. My mind is drenched in love." He looked at Guru ji and said: "what you have said is the truth. Your mind is drenched in the love of Parmeshwar. Your family is wise and concerned about you. If they love you, you should love them too. Make them happy. Your family is bound by your attachment. Your father, uncle and others do not like your ideology. Speak to them and do all your other tasks as you did before." Sri Guru ji, the friend of the poor, spoke:
Sri Mukhvaak..
Wife, son, father, and brother, no one will hold my hand..
When I fall in the end, when the time of my last prayer comes, nobody will be able to save me..
(SGGS 721)
"Father, brother, uncle and others, their love is all false. They let go of you if you don't have money. If you have money, others will become your family. When the Jumms come to get you, none of these people want to keep you then. The Jumms take you alone. Only Parmeshwar's command will go with you. Only the colour of Hari Parmeshwar's Naam goes with you. If you don't do that in your life, then you have nothing. On the path of Jumms, you walk like an orphan then. You are punished on that path. No family or relative could help you then, whom you spent your whole life with." The Maulvi understood this now. He knew now that Guru ji's heart was full of Parmeshwar's love. He thought to himself: "his words have changed my mind, like an elephant is guided with the ankhus. His words are true and filled with virtues. The love of the family is false. There is no one to help a person at the end. The Jeev suffers alone. In this ignorance, a person wastes his whole life. That person does not understand the story of Akaal Purakh." The Maulvi understood Guru ji's glory: "I have never seen so much knowledge in such a young age. Khuddah has come as an Avatar. He has come to give joy to the saints and servants. He has understood Bandagi in such a young age. He is determined to be generous. He does not think of sins. He thinks of the Love of Prabhoo. He is detached from pleasures. His words are drenched with the love of Akaal Purakh." When everyone heard these words, Guru ji uttered more lines of the Shabad:
Sri Mukhvaak..
One wanders all day and night with greed and desire, one thinks bad and does bad..
To do good things, one does not think of them. This is my state..3..
(SGGS 721)
"A person indulges in bad thoughts all day and night, many thoughts come. It is like leaving the stone of Chintamani and going for the fragile item. That is the way of the uncivilized person. He pulls the Kalapbrish tree from his home and plants thorns. He rejects Amrit and takes alcohol. He rejects sandalwood and takes bamboo. How can this person achieve joy? The one who rejects the name of Hari and indulges in pleasures, they spend their whole life in waste. They never fall in love with Hari." There was faith in the heart of the Maulvi. He folded his hands and said: "there is no one else like you. You are the pure form of Allah. You are drenched in Bhagti." Guru ji uttered the 4th Shabad to get rid of ego:
Sri Mukhvaak..
Oh Prabhoo, I am unfortunate, jealous, unaware, shameless and without fear..
Nanak says, I am your servant and the dirt of the feet of your servants..4..
(SGGS 721)
"The ones who are drenched in the love of the Prabhoo, they go to the Satsangat. They don't like anything besides the Simran of Akaal Purakh. They give their mind and body to the Prabhoo and become humble. They become Akaal Purakh's servants and become one with the One. I am the dust of the feet of such Sadhoos. I don't have any virtues. I have many faults. The saints bless people like me." Hearing theses humble words, the Maulvi was in a serene state. He folded his hands, bowed to Guru ji and said: "bless me now. Forgive me for what I said before. I was unaware. Whatever is in your mind, nobody can understand your determination. Give me a place at your feet. Take me out of the cycle of birth and death. You are the greatest. Destroy my pains." The killer of pain heard this and looked at the Maulvi with compassion. He said: "the mind is gold and the world is sand. Collect your mind, one grain at a time. Take it and put it in the forge of Tapasya. Collect your conscience in this way. The dirt of desire will separate and the mind will become pure, like the gold. You can then make jewellery with it, embedding diamonds of the Naam of Parmeshwar. Wearing this jewellery, you will be praised in every dimension. Connect to the Satnam with your attention. Let go of the pride of your body. Your ego will die. Go to the Satsangat and listen to the praises of Hari. Be eager with this." These weapons injured the Maulvi's mind. He became numb. Guru ji's words were so sharp that they pierced the Maulvi's heart. His ignorance was gone. He saw the world as a collection of pain. He understood the greatness of Guru Nanak Dev ji. He folded his hands and said: "you destroyed my ignorance. You are the complete form of Akaal Purakh but you came as a Sadhoo to bless everyone. You are like the lotus flower. You should do as you please. I heard your wisdom. I will do the Simran and reject the ways of the world." Maulana ji bowed and went to his home. He did Simran all the time. The love of Parmeshwar came into this mind. He rejected the love of pleasures. He did Simran all his life and went to Sach Khand when he died.
